What you can do

This just blows my mind what any amount of money you can give can really do something to save someone else’s life. Here is a chart Aaron has posted on his blog. He is referring to the rescue center and clinic in Haiti he, his wife, and friends have recently visited. Check it out. This chart breaks down what any about of money you give could go toward at either the rescue center or the clinic.

Go to Aaron, Bush or Jamie’s websites and find out more on the rescue center and clinic. Find out ways you could help. Find out what other things are going on in this world. Find out how you can love these people without ever meeting them. Your life will be forever changed!

Giving attention to what is important

This past weekend I wrote a post on the whole stimulus check situation. You would not believe the response I got from that! It seems everyone is trying to figure out this whole deal.

As I was looking at the blog stats the other day, I felt a huge need to focus my blog back on what is important. I have posted this information on here twice already, but it is really where my heart is right now. So here it is again:

I read a friend’s blog today about the Farmlands of Ethiopia. In this village, and so many others, the people have to walk a big distance to collect water that is unsanitary. This is their only option. There is no clean water available to them.

Here are some statistics from Living Water International:

1.1 billion people lack access to clean, safe water.
3 million people, most of them children under five, die every year from water-borne diseases.
A child dies every 15 seconds because of the lack of clean water.
As little as $1 can provide clean, safe water to 1 person for a year.

How can we not help these people?! I feel so selfish that I am not already. Go to this website and educate yourself on how you can be apart of the solution. Please do not ignore this or let this opportunity pass by. I would like to see if there could be something started here in E. Tennessee. Here is a way that you could help out on your own:

The H2O Project

Tanzania girl collecting water Bringing water to the world by moving from consumption to contribution.

Every 15 seconds a child dies because of the lack of clean water.

The Opportunity: As little as $10 can provide one person with a lifetime supply of clean water!

The H2O Project helps educate people about the global water crisis and offers an opportunity to make an impact by providing clean water to those in developing countries. For two weeks, make water your only beverage. Save the money that you would normally spend on sodas, coffee, sports drinks for two weeks.

At the end of the two weeks, contribute all of your money to Living Water International for the drilling of wells. Churches, youth groups, key clubs and other organizations have all participated in the H2O Project.

Tell me what unique ways you could be apart of this.

Also, some really great people are doing some awesome things this week here, here, & here. Check it out. Here is the logo for their campaign:

Stimulus Check

When I first started thinking about posting this, I really wanted to say some mean things about our government. Honestly, I still think what I wanted to say, but I will refrain. Instead, I wanted to post this just in case any of you were planning out your stimulus check not know what was really was going to happen with it, as did my husband and I.

We were scheduled, according to the schedule on irs.gov to receive a direct deposit of our stimulus check May 9th. On May 8th I had a co-worker tell me that his girlfriend had not received her’s when she was scheduled to. He did some research and found on irs.gov that if you chose to pay your tax fees with your tax refund, you will not get the stimulus check direct deposited. You will get it mailed to you on the paper check schedule. I looked up the information for myself. I was pretty upset b/c nothing in my online tax service informed me of this, even though it had given me other information regarding my stimulus check throughout the process. On May 16th, one full week after we should have received our check, we received an email from our online tax service that had this paragraph in it:

“Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit.”

Notice the word inadvertently. Just to clarify (as I wanted to for myself) inadvertently is defined by dictionary.com as:

1. unintentional

2. not attentive; heedless

3. of, pertaining to, or characterized by lack of attention.

Honestly, I was pretty upset about that because we are going on vacation next week and we (more me than Tim) were kind of counting on that check as some of our spending money. Please know that I am in no way blaming the government for us not saving better for vacation. It would have just been nice to know before hand.

So, I made my peace with that and just knew we would be receiving the check when we got back from vacation.

Last night my mom called me and told me that two of the girls that she works with DID NOT receive a check because they had student loans. Again, I got ticked off. I immediately called my friend Sharon and asked her to look it up for me (b/c we do not have internet at home yet).

She found this on irs.gov:

“Some taxpayers may receive smaller economic stimulus payments than they anticipated. By law, the stimulus payments are offset to satisfy past-due taxes, student loans, child support and certain other debts.”

So, from what I understand, the stimulus check could (I say could because we have not yet hit the date we are supposed to receive our’s, so I do not know for sure if this will happen to us) go towards paying off our student loans. While I am thankful that we are getting the money at all, I have to say that I really would have liked the option of using the money on needs that we have now (really I am not talking about vacation here, rather the repairs we need to make on BOTH of our vehicles) and continue making the required payments, on time, to pay back my student loans.

What do you all think? Has any one already gone through all of this and know this is what is going to happen, or am I wrong?

**Update: I have spoken to a couple of people who say they have student loans and have still gotten their checks. There is still hope for us yet! (P/S: not really putting my hope in money, there was much sarcasm in that sentence).**

**And another Update: We got our stimulus check!! So there is still hope for those of you who have not gotten your’s yet!!

4 Minutes-Madonna

Ok, so I have been hearing this song on the radio quite a bit. It has a good beat, but I really have thought it was kind of goofy. But I kept thinking that if everyone else liked it, then maybe I didn’t realize it was a good song. I just looked up the video on you tube, and it has confirmed my suspicions. Justin Timberlake and Madonna are jumping all around on top of cars, singing, “Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock” and mackin’ on each other. Ew. I think this is a really strange and goofy song/video. At one part Madonna points at the camera with her hands shaped like guns (you know what I am talking about). It kind of reminds me of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air opening. But, that was meant to be funny.

Please Pray for Steven Curtis Chapman’s Family

I cannot imagine going through something like this! Please, please pray for Steven Curtis Chapman’s family. They have lost the youngest of the 8 of them this week. Please pray for little Maria’s older brother. I cannot imagine what he is going through right now. Pray for their whole family, that there may be peace, love and strength within them.

I have read a couple of other people’s blogs and I praise God for how people are crying out for this family. I praise him for how other families are coming together to love on this family, even though they probably will never meet in this life.

I don’t really have any other words. Just please pray.

Here is the news story.

Ok, just wanted to let you all know that one of the pictures from the modeling job I did for my wedding photographer was actually used in an ad for the bridal shop in the newspaper. I don’t get anything for it, but I thought it was fun that they used it. Here is the picture with the caption they used:

“Still looking for that perfect wedding dress?”

Blogger’s Block

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I am still here. We have been moving this past week and it has been really busy at work. I am pretty tired to say the least. Anyway, don’t really have much to say right now. Well, really I do, but am too tired to write. I will post later this week, maybe with some pictures of all the madness!

Community Group

I just realized something. I am really excited about seeing my community group tonight. Usually it is just the plans we have for Monday nights, but I am excited about seeing them tonight. It will be so good to see them. I didn’t get to see them last week and things seem crazy in my life right now. After next Monday, this group will be no more. Our leaders are moving on to another ministry outside of our church. I will miss them. They are good people. People who I learn from regularly. I am going to miss more than half of our group, b/c they are all moving (medical school residency). But I can’t wait to see the relationships God has in store for us!
